Thought I would report on the Long Beach show, which took place May 31 - June 2.  There were about 300 dealers.  Turnout was good on Thursday, most of the dealers I wanted to visit were packed, in some cases I waited until Friday to do my searches.  California in general has been shunned by the ANA shows, so the Long Beach show is the only really big one left.  People complain that it isn't nearly as good as in past years, for me it hasn't changed much since 2007.  I probably am finding less coins these days because the sets I'm looking at are nearer completion, so the bits left are much harder to find.

The show has a great kid's scavenger hunt, which I've done before with my daughter, though not at this particular show.  They had David Bowers signing books on Friday, but I was kind of busy at that moment and didn't get in line (had to be one of the first 50 people to be over there).  There was a grading competition, which a friend of mine won, the prize was a $20 Saint Gaudens.  I normally enter a display, but haven't had time so didn't do one for this show.

I was able to pick up some pillar fractionals and a nice 8 reales.  Also some Tunisian coins (pre-independence), and I cherried a rare Egyptian copper coin from 1845 that was mislabeled as a common Turkish coin.  That was probably my most exciting purchase.
